Teddy Davenport embraces the fact it’s hard to pinpoint a specific genre for what he does, but he easily connects with the audience with raw soul and catchy hooks that take you through all kinds of highs and lows.  With a unique voice he blends soul, blues, folk, and country with an acoustic guitar and harmonica.  Teddy loves writing simple songs like Bob Dylan, but really loves to challenge himself and the audience by getting creative with a song.  Teddy’s had his fair share of hard times with hard drugs, alcohol, rehabs, and prison he’s earned the right to be described as an old soul.  Davenport lays it all out there in every single song.

Please, give me one more bridge to burn…” So goes the refrain from the final track on Teddy Davenport’s new seven-song release Middle of a Miracle. The song chronicles his troubled past and time spent behind bars with country swagger and Steve Earle honesty. Davenport’s obviously been down a hard road and is clearly a changed man with a mission to help people through music.

Long before the first volume of his 2×4 EP series, everything about Chicago R&B/soul sensation Aryk Crowder has been about building a sturdy, tangible structure on which his unique vision can thrive. From his early four-track recordings in a studio apartment to recent grass-roots efforts in crowd-sourcing and charity work to the hand-stamped artwork and distribution of 2×4, it’s all innovative, creative and certainly DIY, but Crowder’s ethic also hearkens back to a time before DIY was hip or underground. With his own two hands, Crowder isn’t building walls in order to stand-out, so much as bridges.
