Laura Bell and Mickey McDonald
January 3 | 7:00 pm-9:00 pm$10
Lara Bell is a rising singer/songwriter who’s performed live shows between the Chicagoland and Southern WI area at venues such as county fairs, art fairs, wine bars, and coffee shops all since she was 16 years old. Her second time back at Uncommon Ground, she is thrilled to share her stories through songs in an organic atmosphere. She is an accomplished musician of classical piano, guitar, and ukulele. Raining with innocence, Lara brings a freshness to the music industry with her romantic honesty; she has been writing for 6.5 years and has spent time recording her lyrical songs in the studio with mixer Ken Pedraza. Her genre diversity captures the crowd’s attention. Able to adapt to many styles, audience members have compared Lara’s music to Jewel, Joni Mitchell, Corinne Bailey Rae, Bob Dylan, and a little bit of heartfelt country roots. In 2018, Lara has promising plans of releasing more music and traveling to new places/venues to expand her career as a growing indie artist.
Mickey McDonald is a ukulelist, violist, & singer-songwriter originally from Upstate New York. His debut album “Home” was released in 2012, and after a four-year battle with grad school he’s back to writing music & recording again, with a followup album tentatively titled “City” due out this fall. His recorded music layers lush instrumentation & harmonies inspired by the great Romantic composers with catchy pop melodies, while his live performances are a showcase of frenetic left-hand ukulele technique & tuneful singing. When not singing or strumming, he can usually be found in a lab in a sub-basement on the University of Chicago’s campus, working to understand the origins of anything & everything.
